MOOD FOOD of the Week: Grass Fed Beef

Mood: Anxiety

Food: Grass Fed Beef

Research has shown that grass fed beef can help calm the mind because…

  • It is high in Vitamin B12, an important nutrient for nervous system regulation whose deficiency has been linked to brain fog and increased stress.

  • Grass fed beef is naturally rich in choline, a nutrient that supports healthy brain cell development and nervous system regulation

  • It is also especially rich in iron, a nutrient whose deficiencies has been linked to a variety of psychiatric disorders including anxiety.

How to add this MOOD FOOD to your diet:

Beef is a popular protein source for many who follow an omnivorous diet that also contains a multitude of mood supporting nutrients, especially when 100% grass fed. There are many different cuts of steak you can purchase depending on your preference. Popular cuts include strip loin, which is a leaner cut, or ribeye which tends to have higher fat content. You can also use a roast in the slow cooker or opt for ground beef to use in meatballs or tacos. Beef can be energy dense depending on its fat content, so keep in mind you may need just a small serving to reap the benefits!

This week, as part of my premium subscription, I am excited to share my recipe for my Pepper-Crusted Filet Mignon with Baby Spinach Chimichurri!

How to buy grass fed beef:

Grass fed beef is available in grocery stores, meat markets and even some farmers markets. I recommend opting for grass fed and finished, or 100% grass fed when available, because this variety tends to have higher levels of antiinflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, but the nutrients noted above are present in all varieties. Roast beef is a popular deli meat, but I recommend being mindful of these processed forms of meat and choosing products without added ingredients like sugars or nitrates.

Wishing you a joyful & calm week,
